just started fooling around with the amazing Arnold renderer for c4d. Rocksolid performance, fast rendering and a node based shader-system, AOV and the ability to feed back data into cinema. Dope.
xparticles for Cinema 4d is ridiculously fast and versatile. Way more to come.
I tried Nodebox today. A super versatile tool for generative design tasks and data visalisation. Its 100% procedural, well documented and Nodebox 3 uses a great nodebased editor. Nodebox 1 also serves as environment for creating visuals with Python. The animated Reverse was done in AE, but I’m sure there is also a nodebased solution for that. http://nodebox.net/

I’m doing my BA thesis on changing design approaches and the professional use of code for data visualisation. ONFORMATIVE co-founder and designer Cedric Kiefer gave a great overview on Generative Design at CampusParty 2012 in Berlin.
